Today's story is of Harvey and his flower, Lily.
Born a flower (a daisy, ironically enough), Lily was torn from the ground by a dreaming boy named Harvey Vesper. He was a dreamer and a poet, and exuded beauty and innocence of which precious few can dream. Though he uprooted poor Lily - which could have ultimately destroyed her - Harvey was gentle. He replanted her in a much sunnier spot on a scenic hill and came to her every day to whisper to her all his dreams and beautiful images. Unfortunately for Ms. Lily, autumn was fast approaching, and she began to wilt against the cold. Harvey still came to her every day, but he could rarely speak for all the grief that overwhelmed him. One day, Harvey came to his little flower and began to weep. He spoke to her with despair:
"If only little flowers such as you could withstand the gloom of winter! We humans are so durable, but none of my species possess half as much gentleness. Not even I, who has warmed from the love I have for you, can claim such a trait. To be as gentle as a flower... this is a dream that seems impossible, even to my optimistic conceiving. Must humans give up this isolated trait for a longer life? I shall miss you, my flower, my love."
After this monologue, Harvey's eyes became damp, the tears dripping to the base of the flower. Lily soaked the teary treasure in her roots and began to glow. Harvey watched until the light became so bright that it was unbearable, then he turned away, looking back only when it had died down a bit. In the flower's place appeared a young woman, glowing radiantly. She said nothing - a mute - and took Harvey's hand in hers. She wiped his tears away, and they did not return.
The two sat on the hilltop until the sun went to sleep. Lily touched Harvey's face, and kissed his forehead. She took his hand once more, leaving a message. At that point, Lily disappeared into darkness. After his eyes adjusted to the dark, Harvey read the message the Flower Lady had left:
"I leave you now, but I shall return."
The End.
